NEGRO IS THE NEW BLACK

When we think about black people, a lot has changed over the last few years. But have things changed because we are starting to talk more about this or just because they are still fighting for rights they were supposed to have?

The answer is not that simple. I remember when I was a child and I did not understand why black people were called a person of color. Firstly, people are not clothes, so we cannot define them by color. More than anything, for humans we have races. And for black people, the best definition must be the negro race which means a person with dark skin who comes from Africa or whose ancestors came from Africa.

But we do not need to go too far to understand what it is to fight for equal rights. If we take some time to think about it, women were not allowed to vote in Saudi Arabia before 2015. And why? Why were women so different from men? Absolutely nothing. The irony is that for negro women the fight is harder.

The only thing that separates a negro woman from a caucasian woman is opportunity. It is true that these days we can see much more negro women on television shows, series and soap operas, but the subject is almost the same: slavery.

So what do we need? We definitely need more Halle Berry, Viola Davis and Lupita Nyong’o telling us the same ordinary stories with ordinary people represented before only by caucasian actresses.
